Book Launch: Reclaiming Anishinaabe Law

I attended the book launch for Dr. Leo Baskatawang’s Reclaiming Anishinaabe Law: Kinamaadiwin Inaakonigewin and the Treaty Right to Education.

This event carried a much more celebratory tone than others I have witnessed. I recall Dr. Baskatawang explaining that him and his family were going to be late for their reservation at a nearby restaurant because he wasn’t expecting such a strong outpour of support.

The event was a fascinating chance to hear about Dr. Baskatawang’s backstory, but also how that informed differing methodological approaches to the work at hand. The possible relationship between the author and the origins of the Idle No More movement, as drawn out by James Daschuk.
